Was able to watch the East Coast feed this week along with live on the TV on West Coast time. These notes are from the 2nd West Coast viewing only.
I'm trying to give myself a break and not kill myself doing these reviews. We'll see how it goes this season.
What's here are basic reactions I typed out during the show, with a few bits and pieces put in afterwards. Hopefully it'll be brief, but still interesting.
Ah, our first victim...heh.
LOTR poster on the wall. *g*
Whoah....he's about to be drawn and quartered. Yikes. Nice blood spray though. Great sound effects at work. :)
"China Grove"!!!!! Yes! Love this song! :D
Dean wants to go have fun. "You remember fun, don't you, Sammy?" Awwww...
Garth's been tracking them via GPS, along with other hunters and assigning them cases. Dean says it's a total Bobby move. *g*
Sam: "Look it's bad enough that you're tracking us, but it's even worse when you say we've been 'Garthed'." LOL
Sam says since they're waiting for Kevin, working a case will have to be their fun.
The boys as FBI agents again....Taggart & Rosewood. I guess that's from "Beverly Hills Cop"?
Ha! Dean: "The FBI is all work, no play!"
Wait a sec...Sam doesn't know chain mail when he sees it?
That is a cool tat/whatever on the arm...
Love how the boys fall back into that great silent communication thing. :D Dean found nothing in the kitchen, etc.
I really like this sheriff. He's a cool dude.
Poor Lance...he's really upset over Ed's death.
Love the boys being all awkward and uncomfortable over him crying. :P
Gotta say...I love the name Moondoor. *glees*
LARPing! Funny how I didn't even know what that was before that Season 4 ep mentioned it. :P
*shallow moment* I must say, Jared's hair is looking quite fine in this scene. And Jensen, well....he's practically glowing. Hee!
Love how Dean's eyes just glaze over and Lance knows he's not getting through.
"He was Lancelot to my Merlin."
They check out the website for the game that Lance mentioned and...lookie there, it's Charlie as the queen! :D
So cute how Dean's practically drooling over the game and trying to hide it from Sam.
Ha! Robert Singer doing the video narration again. Two eps in a row!
Uh oh, Lance is breaking out in the tree tat...this won't be good
And it isn't. Lots O' Blood.
Off to Moondoor!!!!
Hee! Well the boys are gonna stick out like sore thumbs in those suits.
This dude sees right through their "cheap suits" and "fake badges". Ooops. Guess the boys haven't done such a bang up job of keeping up with the latest FBI IDs.
Love the slo-mo on Felicia as Charlie takes off the helmet. Nice little "Star Wars" moment there, too with the "I love you - I know" exchange.
Dean checking out the foam/fake sword for balance and Sam's exasperation at his brother getting distracted. Seems like old times. *g*
Charlie's not happy to see the guys (love her "Oh, blerg." LOL). She finally got her life back and now they show up.
“If you guys are here, monsters are here. Why do I have such bad luck? What am I, some kind of monster magnet? Is there such thing as a monster magnet?”
She's hightailing it out of there. "Have fun storming the castle." Princess Bride quote FTW!!! :D
Btw, there's a little continuity error there when she puts the crown on Dean's head. It's straight and then when we see him once he turns around it's crooked. Ooopsie. On the other hand...Jensen looks great with a crown. *g*
The boys spill about Ed and Lance dying and Charlie opens up that her army has shrunk due to bad luck. Lots of people getting hurt and taken out of the game.
Of course Dean's totally into the battle planning. Again Sam has to get his attention. Hee!
Dean wants Charlie to take off for safety, but Sam disagrees.
Dean: “I think we can take care of a bunch of accountants with foam swords. My point, which is usually yours, is that she should get somewhere safe and get back to a normal life.”
But Charlie agrees with Sam that people are dying and she can't just stand by while it happens.
"I like my life here. I'm gonna stay and fight for it."
You go girl! :D
Sam gets a phone call, no toxicology on Lance, but...“The medical examiner said his body showed clear signs that he was killed by belladonna."
Dean and Charlie (in unison): “The porn star?"
Sam: "The poison."
Dean and Charlie (in unison): "Oh." LOL
Sam goes to do research in the tech tent while Dean & Charlie canvas the camps.
Charlie: “I’m gonna need the full wiki on where you guys have been.”
But first, Dean's gotta dress up. Awesome! Dean's excited about that, too.
Aw, Maria's sweet...and flirting with Sam already.
Meanwhile, Dean's all fitted out in tights and chain mail. Sweet! :D
Nice how Charlie calls Dean out for his "dick move" of the false text to Sam. Dean admits it wasn't his finest hour. And naturally he doesn't wanna talk about who he gave up.
Charlie says LARPing is an escape for her, she can be a hero here. Dean points out that they couldn't have taken down Dick Roman or the Leviathan without her, that she is a hero.
Heh. Charlie...flirting with the elf.
Sam finds out, as does Charlie & Dean that the only group who hasn't lost members from these "accidents" are the Shadow Orcs.
Turns out the tat is of the Tree Of Pain and is fairy magic.
Love it when the orc dude calls Dean a "manservant" and growls at him after Dean hits him with the wooden sword. Hee!
Dean: “There’s no laptops in Moondoor, there’s no Geneva Convention either.”
Another continuity error with Dean's hand as he's showing the guy the picture of the tree tat. :P
*more shallowness* Too bad that's not a real sword. Jensen looks awesome swinging it around. *swoons* :D
Aw, Sam. He totally turns down Maria. :(
Dean & Charlie run into Boltar in the woods and Charlie introduces Dean as her "handmaiden". LOL!
He sends Charlie off with his phone to find Sam.
On her own and already Charlie's being followed....eeep!
Thankfully it's one of the orcs and she uses dark magic on him and sends him away.
Eeeek!!!! Scary dude in black with a dead animal skull!!!!
Sam's all non-chalant about Dean's outfit, but Dean knows he's jealous. "You love it." Hee!
He also totally lies to Sam about the whole prisoner exchange plan being his idea!
They then realize Charlie's missing.
She wakes up in a strange tent with skull head watching...and there's real magic on the place so she can't escape.
Oh...pretty girl behind the skull.
It's sweet how worried Dean is about Charlie. *loves* :)
They meet with the orc leader to do the prisoner exchange, but Dean's had enough roll-playing and decides to get down to business, pulling out his gun and scaring everyone by firing it. He wants to know where Charlie is. The orc leader has no idea where Charlie is, he's a vic of the tree tat, too. Then other orc dude says he saw a weird tent.
Shadow Orc Prisoner: “I harbor an epic crush on the queen and maybe you could put in a good word for me when you find her?"
Dean: “I don’t think you’re her type."
Shadow Orc Prisoner: “What? You mean she’s not into Orcs?"
Meanwhile, Charlie's getting to know Gilda, the fairy. She was brought here by a spell and now must do her master's bidding. She can't break free herself, someone must take her master's book of magic and destroy it. Let the flirting begin...
The boys and Boltar come across a small tent...that's much bigger and more oppulant inside. And Charlie & Gilda are making out. Boltar is Gilda's master!
Cool effect of the guns poofing into feathers. But I wonder if they got them back? They need their guns.
Ok, Boltar is taking this game waaaaaay too seriously.
Dean: “You were a loser in the real world and you’re a loser here? Shocker."
Boltar: “Would a loser track down a real book of spells and compel a fairy to do his bidding?"
Sam: “It depends. How’d you get it?"
Sam, you're sweet...trying to talk reason to the crazy man like you always do. :P
Ooop....the fight is on! As usual, Sam's being strangled...ok, it's by a suit of armor, but still. Dean's fighting with Boltar (when foam swords don't work there's always punching!) and Charlie is the one who stabs the book of spells with a dagger and destroys it! Very cool.
Gilda leaves to return to her home & takes Bolar with her to face judgement. Wonder how harsh fairies are about that sort of thing?
Charlie has decided to stay put. She's done running and getting a new identity.
“I gotta face reality from now on. Sadly, reality actually includes monsters, but what are you gonna do?”
This time she tells the guys to look her up if they need help. Yes! She might return again to show!!! Dean asks if she's good...
“Apart from the fact that you blocked me from banging a fairy and I’m about to go lose my crown in battle thanks to my army being decimated, yeah, totally good.”
Dean again establishes the "no fun" rule and says he understands what Sam gave up and that he needs some time.
Sam: "You're right. Having fun won't help me. It'll help both of us. Shall we?"
So nice of Sam to agree to relax and have some fun. Dean's face is priceless! Trying to hide his glee and totally failing at it.
OMG This scene!
The boys dressed up and with painted faces and Dean with long hair!!!! *dies* It's beyond awesome. :D
Can't help but giggle at Jense using his even deeper, gruffer voice while doing the Braveheart speech. And then the guy with the frisbee and the dedication at the end. Heehee! Oh, show...I love you. :D
Is there anything really to analyze here? I think not. This was simply a fun-filled episode and based on the reaction on Twitter it's already a big hit with fans. I've been eager for Charlie's return and I'm so glad we got it. I also think we needed a light-hearted episode. There's been so much angst, drama, and turmoil. Time for a little breather.
Obviously, I'm giving this episode a big thumbs up. I laughed throughout and very much enjoyed it.
