I'd like to think of this as an in-depth look into Supernatural. It's a collection of interesting observations, continuity errors, goofs, filmmaking techniques, statistics, important (or not so important) information, trivia, and anything else that struck me as unusual.
I'll be examining each episode in order, one at a time. Some of the info. will probably be well known to most of you, but I hope to point out some new discoveries as well.
All the caps in these posts are my own. While most of these will not be suitable for other uses, due to my cropping and highlighting, you're free to take any that you like. All I ask is that you give me credit for them. Thanks! :D
Beware! This post is very image heavy.
Edit (Aug. 28, 2008): This was spotted by blackbirdj2. In the opening scene where the couple's car breaks down beside the apple orchard, there's a wide shot where you can see someone (or is it something? ooooh) walking through the trees on the left side of the frame. I've circled the area in the cap below. It's nearly impossible to see in a still frame, you need to watch the video.
Continuity Error: Differences from the final scene in Asylum - newspaper under the ashtray instead of magazines, boys sleeping differently, different blanket for Dean.
[Take a look at the end of my SPN Revealed post of 1.10 Asylum to see the caps showing the differences between the 2 episodes.]
Continuity Error: In the wide shots of the car scene, we see Dean with a flashlight on his right shoulder and in the closeups it's not there and in later wide shots it's also gone.
Hey, don't I know you from somewhere? Names seen on Dean's cell phone: Bren (for Bren Moore, set Costume Supervisor), Carmelita (for Carmelita Fowler, the show's Property Assistant), Christian, Curtis (this could be for Curt Maze, the on-set Dresser/Decorator), Dad, Donny (this is probably Don Painchaud, the Sound Mixer), Robin (possibly Robin Stooshnov, Assistant Property Master), Sam.
When Dean climbs the ladder to look at the scarecrow, you can see it breathing.
When Emily goes to fill up the Impala's gas tank the license plate door for the tank is already flipped down.
Hey, don't I know you from somewhere? Names seen on Sam's cell phone: Rebecca Warren (from S1 episode Skin), Jerry (pager) (from S1 episode Phantom
Traveler, maybe?), John Marcynauk (one of the Production Designers on the show), Dean, Mary Ann Liu (this is the show's Graphic Designer/Artist).
We learn Dean takes his coffee black.
I can see you: You can see a second camera move on the left side of the frame as Dean turns to leave after speaking to the college professor.
Nice fall from Jensen, btw. Ouch!
Classic shot from director, Kim Manners. Just like his shot in The X-Files.
Ooops: After Sam unties Dean from the tree, you see Jensen kind of struggle to get around Jared in this shot.
There's some wild painting of a female warrior on the side of the van where Meg kills the driver.
Hope you enjoyed this revealing look at Scarecrow.
