First Impressions: 8x22 "Clip Show"

Was able to watch the East Coast feed this week along with live on the TV on West Coast time. These notes are from the West Coast showing.

I'm trying to give myself a break and not kill myself doing these reviews. We'll see how it goes this season.
What's here are basic reactions I typed out during the show, with a few bits and pieces put in afterwards. Hopefully it'll be brief, but still interesting.

Keep in mind, I already knew about the returning guest stars/characters for this episode. ;)

Tommy! from S1's Wendigo! Gotta love that he's all prepared to fight it off again. Sadly, he gets killed anyway...in a very bloody fashion.

The boys are researching all the demonic possession files in the MOL bunker...and there's a lot of them.
Sam's still feeling sucky. :(
Sam: “My whole body hurts. I feel nauseous and like I’m starving at the same time. And everything smells like rotting meat.
Dean: “I’ve had that hangover. Jaeger, man."

Cas is still recovering, but he likes the bunker.
Dean wants a ping-pong table. Hee!
Oh, Dean's not talking to Cas. Weird. Didn't see that coming, but I guess I should have.
Cas tries apologizing....
Dean: "Like, uh...Like ignoring us? Or like bolting off with the Angel Tablet, then losing it 'cause you didn't trust me? You didn't trust me."
Dean doesn't handle people not trusting him. He won't accept Cas's apology even if he thought he was doing the right thing.
Dean: "Yeah, you always do."

Even Sam thinks Dean's out of line in blaming the angel. "Because it's Cas!"
They're searching through yet another room full of stuff....looking for an old exorcism file.
Dean finds a secret door as Sam finds the file.
Turns out they've got their own secret dungeon. Sweet!

It's an old movie. Cute how they have popcorn. LOL
The Abaddon chick is doing the filming....interesting.
These priests are exorcising the demon from an old woman....but this is no ordinary exorcism.
The words are a little different, and then there's the cutting of the priest's hand, putting it over her mouth....but something went wrong.
Dean: "Well that was weird...with three exclamation points."
The younger priest is still alive...the boys go to check it out. Cas tries to come along, but Dean orders him to stay there.

They meet with the surviving priest....learn that the demon in the film escaped out into the world, but Father Thompson kept trying his exorcisms.
Poor Sam coughs up more blood and has to excuse himself. Dean then explains to the priest that Sam's going to lock away all the demons.
Dean: "Father, over the past couple of months, I've seen him do crap that I didn't even think was possible. I mean, sure, he's miserable and he's hurting, but you know what? There's not a doubt in my mind that he's gonna cross that finish line -- not one."

OMG Cas grocery shopping...He's getting things that Dean would like. Awww.
The clerk going "Dude!" as Cas leaves a mess everywhere he goes. LOL
Cas: "Where is the pie?
Clerk: "I think we're out."
Cas: "You don't understand. I NEED pie."

I totally LOL'd over this.
Metatron! They need to talk...

Ok, I've gotta find this location....
So in public Metatron is Marv. :P
“Kevin Tran told me about you. According to him, you and I have a lot in common. We’re both free thinkers. We’re both on Heaven’s Most Wanted list. I thought we could socialize, maybe grab a bite.”
Metatron needs to further catch up on what's been going on, specifically up in Heaven.
Cas confesses, that he messed things up in Heaven even though he's tried to atone for it all.
Metatron pitches that Heaven needs him and Cas to fix it....lock the angels in a room.
He wants to shut down the place....but he takes off before Cas can learn more.

The boys find Cas missing at the bunker and Dean's found a recording of the last exorcism Father Thompson performed before his death.
He injects the demon with his own purified blood (after he went to confession)....keeps pumping it in and asking the demon how it felt to eat the man's children.
After 8 hours, the black eyes disappear....he does the exorcism and the hand thing....it works, the demon is....remorseful. He's been saved.
Dean wants to test drive this idea. He's got a plan...."put Humpty Dumpty back together again."

Cas catches up with Metatron....he doesn't like to talk on an empty stomach.
He thinks a little alone time would be good for the angels, because their violence will only leak onto the earth eventually..."It always does".
He wants Cas to do the 3 trials from the Angel Tablet...first one: kill their waitress. She's a nephilim: the child of a human and an angel and the only one on earth.

Ok, this is the only thing I have issues with about this eppy.
Why did they leave Abaddon's body intact? Did they just leave it in a building somewhere? Wouldn't they have burned it? Does. Not. Compute.
I get keeping the head around, but there's no explanation about where her body's been all this time. That bothers me. Grrrrr.
Moving on....
Dean figures they just re-attach her head and they can do the exorcism on her.

Dean holds her head and Sam does the sewing. Cool.
Abaddon: "Morning, sunshines."
Dean: "It worked. You owe me a beer."

Oh....they cut off her hands. Nice!
And she's still got the DT bullet in her to keep her in place.
Turns out she knows all about Father Thompson and she killed him.
Sam gets a phone call (nice with the 666 number)...it's Crowley.
Abaddon seems surprised that Crowley's now the King Of Hell.

Cool barn!
Crowley tells them to check the papers...
Meanwhile, Abaddon's hand is escaping....uh oh.
This is awesome! It's like The Thing! She pulls the bullet out of her mouth. Oh boy.
The boys find the article and it's about Tommy Collins from the opener.
And surprise, surprise, the boys return inside to find their demon gone.
Sam finds the bullet on the floor.
Crowley's texted them an address in Indiana....another past case "Shut Up, Dr. Phil".
Dean: "Well, you know it's a trap."
Sam: "Of course it's a trap. But a trap means demons, and we could use one right now."

The boys drive to Jenny Klein's apartment to find her burned dead in her oven.
So Crowley's been reading the books! Brilliant. Love how he calls Sam "Moosie". Heh.
Crowley: "I'm killing everyone you've ever saved -- the damsels in distress, the innocent whippersnappers, the would-be vampire show -- all of them."
He's going to kill a person every 12 hours until they return the Demon Tablet and give up on the trials. He wants them to find Kevin and get the tablet.
Crowley: "About now, you're thinking of ways to stop me. You won't be able to, but you'll try because that's what you do. You -- you try."
He gives them the next location....Indianapolis.
It's Sarah from "Provenance"!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!!!

Metatron and Cas follow the waitress....she knows what they are, just wants to live her life.
Turns out she's got some angel powers of her own and starts throwing the guys into fences.
If she'd only left them alone, I think Cas would've let her go. But her actions spurred him to kill her.

Turns out Sarah still works for her dad.
The boys are ready to set up things to keep any demon out.
Sam: “Look, I know this is insane, but insane is kind of what we do.”
Sarah seems pretty confident they can protect her...."You've done it before."
She's married and has a 1 year old daughter. Poor Sam, of course, has none of that.
But she can see he's not the same...."I can't even imagine the things you've been through."
She can see he's more confident, focused...knows what he wants.
"I do miss the old haircut though." LOL Don't we all?
Oh, man....time's up....Sarah's dying!
Turns out Crowley's mom was a witch....it's a spell, a hex bag....not a demon!
Hurry boys!!!!! Find it!!!!!!!
Meanwhile, Crowley's going on and on while Sarah's choking to death. He mentions that he's keeping demons away from them.
And the boys can't find it....OMG
Crowley: "What's the line? Saving people, hunting things, the family business. Well, I think the people you save, they’re how you justify your pathetic little lives. The alcoholism, the collateral damage, the pain you’ve caused. The one thing that allows you to sleep at night, the one thing, is knowing that these folks are out there, still out there happy and healthy because of you, you great, big, bloody heroes. They're your life's work, and I'm going to rip it apart piece by piece because I can, because you can't stop me, and because when they're all gone, what will you have left?"
Dammit....she's gone. :(
Dean picks up the phone and then throws it against the wall....the hex bag was in the friggin' phone! Oh, boys....*cries for them*
Sam is simply devastated.

The boys return to the bunker...Dean wonders if Sam's ok. Um, I don't think so.
Dean wants to stick to the plan, shut down Hell.
Sam's ready to give up....the price is too high. "Maybe this isn't one we can win. Maybe we should just take the deal."
Dean doesn't want to give up...."We'll figure this out. We will. Man, we'll get it done. We'll kick it in the ass like we always do".
This is one of the many things I love about this show. When one brother is ready to give up the other is there to convince him that they can find a way to keep going.
Dean wants to know if Sam's with him....

Another awesome ep! I loved it all...except for that bit about Abaddon I mentioned above. I minor quibble, really.

::: Is anyone else nervous about Cas following with Metatron's idea to close Heaven? Cas is so like Dean...thinking he can never do enough penance for what wrongs he's done, but always trying to fix things. Sadly, he's easily swayed by others. Somehow I don't think this plan is for the best. Just a feeling I have.
::: So, so sad that they killed of Sarah. :( Must admit I didn't see that coming. I somehow hoped the boys would be triumphant and save her. But I also get that Crowley would be smart enough (especially having read the books - equally smart) to go after someone who would really mean something to the boys. I love how deliciously evil Crowley has become. Sure, he's always showed that side over the years, but he's reached a whole new level now. What makes it even better is that he knows the boys as well as they know him and he can hit them where it'll hurt the most.
::: I keep wondering where Kevin is and why on earth the boys would just let him go.

OMG Next week is the season finale!!!!!!! Bring it on! :D
