I'd like to think of this as an in-depth look into Supernatural. It's a collection of interesting observations, continuity errors, goofs, filmmaking techniques, statistics, important (or not so important) information, trivia, and anything else that struck me as unusual.
I'll be examining each episode in order, one at a time. Some of the info. will probably be well known to most of you, but I hope to point out some new discoveries as well.
All the caps in these posts are my own. While most of these will not be suitable for other uses, due to my cropping and highlighting, you're free to take any that you like. All I ask is that you give me credit for them. Thanks! :D
Beware! This post is image heavy.
That's not Jared's photo on the Michigan Police badge.
Continuity Error: The step-mom has one cup in her left hand (supposedly already with coffee) and in the next shot, passes a different one to Sam (with her right hand, which was just pouring the coffee from the pot).
I'm not too sure a window like that could actually sever a human head. That's a lot to cut through (bone, etc.) and it's not as if there was a blade on the edge of that wood (like with a guillotine). Nice to see the head actually fall into the flower box though. Guess this is that scene Robert Singer talked about at the Paley Festival when he was describing dealing with Standards & Practices and how they said the head could only do half a turn. LOL
Regular Feature: Dean Door Kick # 4 Dean's fourth door kick as they try to get up to Roger Miller's apartment.
You can actually see Roger's head in the flowerbox as the boys approach - ewwww!
Dean does the little protective parental arm block to keep Sam from getting hit by a car - awww!
Continuity Error: Minor one as Dean turns away with Sam when he starts having a vision. His arm is up around Sam's neck & shoulders and then when facing the camera it's more around his waist.
Great camera and acting work in the driving scene. The car is on a truck, so Jensen isn't actually doing the driving to move the car, but notice how he says all his lines while making the turns with the steering wheel at the correct times!
The gun Dean grabs from the glove compartment becomes Sam's gun in S2 & S3.
That's Jensen's stunt double that hits the wall.
Edit (Aug. 28,2008): pbfate spotted the tube used on Jensen to spray out blood from the back of his head when Dean is shot in the vision sequence. It took a bit to spot it and then cap it, but you can see it just as Jensen falls out of frame.
Nice bit of continuity: You can see Dean pack his priest outfit into his duffle bag.
First mention of Vegas! (yes, please!)
Hope you enjoyed this revealing look at Nightmare.
