I'd like to think of this as an in-depth look into Supernatural. It's a collection of interesting observations, continuity errors, goofs, filmmaking techniques, statistics, important (or not so important) information, trivia, and anything else that struck me as unusual.
I'll be examining each episode in order, one at a time. Some of the info. will probably be well known to most of you, but I hope to point out some new discoveries as well.
All the caps in these posts are my own. While most of these will not be suitable for other uses, due to my cropping and highlighting, you're free to take any that you like. All I ask is that you give me credit for them. Thanks! :D
Beware! This post is image heavy.
Pastor Jim really has quite a weapons stash. The symbols above the archway are interesting. Question though...The man's a priest...he's face to face with a demon...he's gotta have holy water around in spades...and he throws a knife at her???
Continuity Error: When Meg is about to slice Pastor Jim's neck, she's first seen holding the knife low in front of herself, but in the next shot she's holding the knife up high by her head.
There's a lot of interesting things tacked up on the wall of the motel room, showing John's research of the YED. Recognize the illustration of the Shtriga from "Something Wicked"? I've got various caps as clickable thumbnails to save on space and to help out those on dial up.
Continuity Error: When John is telling the boys about what he's learned, Dean is standing by his side and you can see him in John's CU. The shot then cuts to Dean walking away, but in the next shot of John's CU you can see Dean standing next to him again.
Dean next to John.
Dean walks away.
In the next shot of John, we see Dean next to him again.
Ooops: How do you spell Lotto? In Salvation, Iowa they don't know.
There's lots of rainy weather in this episode.
It's raining when John stops to tell the boys about Pastor Jim's death.
Then when Sam has his vision outside of the hospital...
And again when John leaves the boys to go meet with Meg.
I like how Dean angrily gets back in the car after John says that he's ending this no matter what it takes. Nice touch by Jensen.
John pulls up to the hospital, but it looks suspiciously like the front of the studio in Burnaby!
We get to see one of John's fake IDs, which from the looks of it, has his real name on it. Sorry I don't have a better shot of it.
Sam is writing down the birth records in his journal.
Name on the birth certificate: Mary Ann Liu, the show's Graphic Artist/Designer. The birthdate on the certificate is May 2nd, which is the same as Sam. The name Robert Leader can also be seen down at the bottom of the document. He is the show's Set Designer. The second cap is a closer shot and full-sized so it's easier to read. Just click on the thumbnail.
Dean's Police ID has a nice, worn look about it, with some stains and stuff. Nice job by the prop department, but it makes me wonder...just how often does Dean play policeman? *iz naughty* :P
I got curious about the map Sam looks at to find Monica's house after his first vision and I found out it's a map of Boulder, Colorado! I looked up Wonderland Lake (as seen on Sam's map) and found it in Boulder. Granted, earlier in the episode they were in Denver, CO, but at this point in the story they're in Iowa.
Wonderland Lake in Boulder, CO - map by Google.
Clearly a doll in the carriage in the first shot we see of Monica walking with baby Rosie.
What is it with Sam and clowns? Hee. Even before we knew about Sam's fear of clowns (which we don't learn until the S2 eppy ELAC) the writers were putting in little clown references, such as this one in Rosie's nursery.
I thought this clock in the nursery was interesting, too. Is there a certain time that the YED comes to attack?
These two caps are kind of for blacklid. You lucky gal, you! It's our last look at John's truck "Truckzilla".
A subtle version of the SammyFrown as the brothers try and figure out how to save Monica and her family.
I really love how the show uses color. Note the demonic red light highlighting the back of Meg's head when she's looking for John.
Continuity Error: When John blesses the water in the tank the way he's holding the rosary changes between angles.
The CU of the YED's eyes looks like a borrowed shot of Eugene Victor Tooms from the X-Files.
More use of the demonic red light.
Nice call back to the Pilot (where Dean shoved Sam up against the bridge) to this episode with Sam shoving Dean up against the wall.
Hope you enjoyed this revealing look at Salvation.
Stay tuned...the final episode, "Devil's Trap" is on the way. :)
