CHARACTER BREAKDOWN & THOUGHTS:
First of all, am I the only one a little upset about the "Then" bit with Sam repeatedly saying "I don't know" like he's some sort of idiot??? WTH???? I'm a Dean girl and maybe I'm a little used to him being dumbed down when he's actually really smart, but doing this to Sam??? That's just not right. And what was the point of it anyway? It's not like the boys didn't figure out the monster in this episode pretty quickly. I haven't read of anyone being offended by this, so maybe it's just me?
On the other hand...the teaser bit? OMG AWESOMENESS!!! The way it was shot and edited, just the whole thing...chilling and excellent. Oh, look BLOOD! What a way to start an episode! :D
♦ Cole is back! I love this character, I really do, but I have one problem: what the hell is with the accent? If Cole's from New York he certainly doesn't sound like it and Travis Aaron Wade is from California. Why does he sound like he's talking with a slightly southern accent all the time??? Does. Not. Compute.
♦ Anyhoo...Cole and Kit were buddies from when they were kids and Cole's set on coming along with the boys as they work this case.
♦ Of course Cole finds out where Kit possibly is and doesn't tell the boys. Glad that the boys were smart enough to see through it though and followed him. Dean: "And you bought him dinner!" LMAO
♦ And things get disgusting really fast when Kit coughs up a Khan worm into Cole's mouth. EWWWWW!!!! Actually, Kit had 2 of the worms! Love how Sam tries to cut it with a machete and Dean just stomps it with his boot.
♦ Cole: "Oh, God. Something moved! It's alive Sam." Yeah, that's never a good thing.
♦ Some have complained about Cole calling the boys "Sammy" and "Dean-o", but you know what? It really didn't bother me. It somehow fits his character, I guess. A lot of fandom have said Sam should've complained about him calling him "Sammy" since he made a big deal about Gordon calling him that back in S2, but I figure it's just not a big thing for Sam anymore. He's been through an awful lot since then, so a little nickname? Not that big of a deal.
♦ Why didn't Cole take off his dog tags from around his neck. Uh, isn't that going to add to the pain from the electrical current?
♦ Nice shot of one of Cole's tattoos: Strength To Change.
♦ I like how Dean really doesn't want to keep electrocuting Cole, to keep hurting him like that. Obviously the Mark isn't coming into play here, so it's nice to see Dean feeling such regret at nearly killing this guy.
♦ More ewwww as Cole finally coughs up the worm and Dean kills it. Gotta love that blood splatter and the squishy sound effects!
♦ Cole: "Guess I've seen it all now."
Dean: "Some, not all."
♦ Aw, Cole. You may not wanna see the boys again, but I hope we see you down the road.
KIT & JEMMA
♦ Ew. Licking blood off the floor. Yeah, that's not normal.
♦ Yay! For Sam showing up just in time before Kit transferred a worm to his wife. Just how many worms does this guy have inside of him???
♦ Hee! Dean suspecting Sam's looking at porn. Anyone else having flashbacks to Season 3 when Sam was also researching behind Dean's back to keep him from going to hell? Problem is...Sam isn't as good at it now as he was then - all stammering instead of answering and stuff like that. Of course Dean sees right through it and Sam stays unusually silent when he's confronted.
♦ Gonna put this right here because...damn, Jensen. *stares*
♦ Sam totally cake-blocked Dean! LOL But Dean got that little finger swipe of frosting. Heehee!
♦ Dean: "When in doubt, eat."
♦ Love it when Dean does the whole silent hand signal thing!
♦ Sam actually gets to drive the Impala for once!
♦ Dean, probably not the smartest thing drinking a bottle of water right in front of the dude who's sweating and dying to drink! And why isn't Dean taking off that outer shirt by now?
♦ Sam has to do the whole there-are-monters-out-there-and-I'm-a-hu
♦ Dean is urging Cole to fight the monster inside of him. Hmmm....parallels much? Yeah, you gotta believe Dean's gonna fight the Mark until the end, but when will his turning point be?
♦ Noooo!!!! Don't spew that worm into Sammy!!!
♦ Poor Sam after he tells Dean it was too late to save Kit and later after Cole leaves. :(
♦ Is that the first moonlit view we've seen of the Bunker entrance? I think so.
♦ It's Fort Langley!!!! Been there several times. Looks like they didn't need the smoke machines. Had natural fog. :D
♦ That sure looks like the director of the ep, John Badham, pulling a Hitchcock and walking past the Impala at Beth Willis's house.
♦ That is one amazing baby and a cutie to boot.
♦ The boys & Cole eating at "Sammy's Highway Cafe". *snorfle*
♦ That is an awesome shot of the Impala's front left tire as it drives across that bridge! Sweet!
Dean: Hey check it out.
Sam: What? No it was nothing.
Dean: Hey look no judgement from me, just not where we eat.
Sam: Dude, it wasn't porn.
Dean: Okay, erotica whatever. Just zip it up.
Dean: Sam! I know what you're doing over there, and it ain't porn. Look man, we have checked every website, okay we checked it twice. Sam when we work a case, there's always that-that point where we have to face the truth, right? Even if we don't like it. Well truth is, there's no way around this. We saw what happened to Cain, okay. I'm not happy about it, but I gotta move on. So I'm gonna keep doing we what do... while I still can, and I'd like you to be there with me.
Dean: “The guy Molotov cocktailed himself, that’s bonkers. That’s like demon-possession bonkers.”
Cole: Look I know what you two are thinking, but we are not going hunt my best friend, who happens to be a frickin' war hero by the way. We are going to find him, and that's the difference.
Dean: Hey man we're right there with you, okay. Kit's a hero.
Sam: But you gotta prepare yourself, Kit might not be Kit anymore.
Dean: Man, that was a dumbass move coming here alone. You know that right?
Cole: I'm sorry, I should have let the machete brothers cut my friends head off.
Dean: Well, if you did, you wouldn't be choking down a Khan worm now.
Dean: You know that this is going to hurt like a son of a bitch.
Cole: Hell. I have a wife, a kid and an upside-down mortgage to get back to. Whatever it takes Dean-o.
Cole: Damn. Day in day out, you and Sammy saving people from things they just can't wrap their minds around, and nobody even notices. At least I get a medal for my efforts, but you... I tried to kill your ass.
Dean: Well, good times.
Cole: I almost took you off the map. Who'd be saving me now?
Dean: Yeah, well let's not get too sentimental about it. Ok, let's fire this puppy up.
Cole: You say that like it's just another Tuesday.
Dean: Oh, buddy. It's only Monday.
Cole: My Dad, he got something inside him too right? You think this is what he felt like, when he turned.
Dean: Maybe, he was human before he was a monster.
Cole: I get it, why you did it Dean. My Dad wasn't my dad anymore, if I go down that same road, I want you to do that to me too.
Dean: That road? That means giving up. If you think that's where your headed, then you've got it ass backwards. You're gonna fight, harder then you ever have. You understand.
Cole: I appreciate the talk coach, but honestly all I can think about is slicing open your wrists and drinking you like a fountain. I guess that makes me a monster, don't it?
Cole: “I want to thank you, Dean-o, for keeping me standing."
Dean: “All it took was a little blood, sweat and more sweat."
Dean: Don't blame yourself for Kit, man.
Sam: I can't help it Dean, it feels crappy.
Dean: I know it does.
Sam: I tried, I did, I tried. But I couldn't save this one.
Dean: You know you can do everything right, and even still sometimes, the guy still dies.
A good, solid MOTW to return to after a month long hiatus. There wasn't anything particularly exceptional about this ep, but it was a nice non-mytharc episode.
It was certainly one of SPN's more icky and disgusting episodes though. Bleh. :P
On the other hand, bravo for them going there in the first place. ;)
Oh, Sam. He wants to save Dean so badly, as as this case showed (and Dean pointed out at the end), sometimes you do all you can and the person still dies. This sure doesn't hold out much hope for Dean's circumstance with the Mark, but I have a feeling that despite Dean knowing that Sam's still researching, I don't think Sam will quit anytime soon. And Dean well, he's always urging others to fight and stay strong, but he's not always sure he can do that himself. You know he was equating himself to Cole's struggles against the worm. If Cole can fight, so can he...but the Mark is a whole lot different from a worm.
Yeah, not much to say about this episode really. I enjoyed it, but it's 2 days later and I'm tired and...yeah. Bring on next week!
