CHARACTER BREAKDOWN & THOUGHTS:
CROWLEY & ROWENA
♦ Ha! Rowena's story about dating a guy who works at Biggerson's and is so..."firm". "Please stop talking." LOL
♦ How did Rowena get everyone out of the bar that fast? Sure, she turned the college dudes into snarling animals but what about the bartender and the other customers?
♦ Ah, Rowena...being bent over the bar like that by Dean? So many women would wanna trade places with you...*ahem*
♦ So we're assuming Dean made Rowena undo her spell on the college guys?
♦ I love how unconcerned Crowley is over Rowena's appearance after she cuts herself up with the knife to make it look like Dean attacked her. "Rough date, mother?" :P
♦ Rowena lets slip that the Mark is just a curse and can be removed. Ah,ha! Crowley, being the good
♦ Love Crowley with his fancy drink and the little red pitchfork! Him and Dean...total bromance reunited! Seriously, these two are more open and honest with each other in this one little scene than Dean and Sam are to each other in the entire episode! Methinks that's going to be telling down the road for the rest of the season.
♦ Crowley finally kicks mommy out of hell. About time.
SAM, CASTIEL, BOBBY
♦ I gotta say, Bobby's heaven isn't too bad. And man! So glad to see him again! :D
♦ So cool to have Hannah back, if only in another host. The actor did a real good job.
♦ So cute how Cas want's to break down Oliver's door and Sam's all "Chill, dude, I've got this. We don't need angelic powers here." LOL
♦ Sam's face when Oliver calls him a hippy...priceless! :D
♦ I wonder what threat Sam was thinking of to get Oliver to help them? Hmmmm.
♦ Love how reverently Sam puts Bobby's old cap on the table. Where did he get that anyway? Bobby's house was burned in S7.
♦ How are Sam & Cas talking to Bobby exactly? Bobby has the radio for his "telephone" but what do the guys have? The candles???
♦ Cas: "The angels will not like a soul wandering free." 'Cause we clearly can't have that in heaven. Sheesh. Ever get the idea that heaven in SPN-Land is kind of like a prison except you're so doped up and happy that you don't know it? Where's Ash and his all-knowing wisdom about breaking through heavens when you need him?
♦ Love how Bobby's still into Tori Spelling.
♦ Bobby was a hunter for how long? How would he really get rusty just sitting around in heaven for a couple of years? The guy's clearly underestimating himself, because he did just fine on this little mission.
♦ Can I be picky here and say that's NOT the same wallpaper that was in Bobby's house? What it supposed to be close to the same, but different? The whole room has a similar feel of the original, but isn't the same. It would be nice to know if this was intentional or not.
♦ Also, if the angels are so strict about human souls not escaping their little heavens why have an escape hatch on the places in the first place? Just in case an angel gets in there and can't get out? Seems like poor planning to me. It's like putting the key to the prison cell right outside of the bars.
♦ Doesn't that angel guarding the playground portal know that Sam & Cas are there? They're pretty darned close and not exactly hiding.
♦ Cas jumping into the portal in slo-mo was totally awesome! :D
♦ What? You're telling me nobody guards the prison in heaven? Bobby and Cas can just waltz right in?
♦ Very smart stealing Metatron's grace! Didn't see that coming at all. And then they throw his line about leverage ("Learn it, live it, love it.") right back in his face! Ha!
♦ Metatron doesn't know how to get rid of the Mark. Nothing in the tablets and his whole river & the source line was a lie to save his life. Interesting how he mentions talking to Lucifer about the Mark....hmmmm. But he does know where Cas's grace is!
♦ Awwww...Sam tearing up after reading Bobby's letter. :(
♦ And what's going to happen to Bobby? Is he going to be punished somehow for breaking out and causing all that trouble? *worries*
♦ Holy cow! That first scene with Sam waking up to Dean yelling out his name and then Sam running to his brother's room w/a gun and finding Dean in the throws of a nightmare. PURE GOLD!!!! Gah! I love this stuff. Finally some real physical signs of how the Mark is effecting Dean. The look of worry on Sam's face, but he doesn't wake up Dean...and Dean clearly dreaming of killing Sam like Cain said. *draws hearts around all the brotherly concern & love*
♦ Of course Dean says he slept "like a drunk baby" the next morning...and of course Sam uses a lie about going to see a French film to get out of the bunker. Oh, boys! Some things never change.
♦ Love seeing Dean going through Sam's room and messing with things: sitting on his pillow, taping the phone, using his toothbrush under is arms. Shades of the pranks in "Hell House", but you know these seem pretty tame to me from a guy who once put Nair in Sam's shampoo.
♦ OMG Dean scrunching up his hair to go hustle pool with the college preppies is hotter than it should be.
♦ LOVE LOVE LOVE watching Dean play pool (this needs to happen more often). Those guys had no idea who they were dealing with. I was also having flashbacks of Jensen in Dark Angel in that pool scene with Alex and Logan. *g*
♦ OMG OMG OMG!!! Dean's eyes were black!!!! For a second and then they were normal, but WTH was that??? On a side note what is with Dean always splashing water on his face for no apparent reason over the years? I mean, it's kinda sexy but for a guy who gets pissed off whenever someone's splashed holy water in his face because they thought he was a demon, it's pretty darned weird. I'm not complaining, just observing.
♦ Once again Dean fights the Mark and stops himself from killing. :)
♦ That's gotta be the smallest knife I've seen Dean carry in years! And where's his gun? You're telling me always-armed-and-prepared-Dean-Wincheste
♦ And Dean finds out Crowley is Rowena's son. "Crowley, Crowley?" Like there's another Crowley out there? LOL
♦ I swear I know this location where Sam drives up to meet Cas. I think it's in Delta & the heaven's door playground is there, too. I'll check later.
♦ The long white hallway of heaven? Friggin' genius!
♦ "The Bobbys are surly." is one of the best lines! LOL And did you see the actor react to the line? Dude tried to hide it but you could totally see his mouth twitch into a smile a bit.
[Crowley walks in on a naked Rowena]
Crowley: Oh God.
Rowena: Please it's nothing you haven't seen before.
Crowley: You're my mother, I don't want to see anything. I've been to Hell, thanks.
Rowena: Next time, knock.
Crowley: This is my domain. I don't knock.
Sam: Mr. Pryce, this is Sam-
Oliver: Winchester. You're Sam Winchester - Man of Letters.
Sam: Yeah, how-how did you-
Oliver: Mind reader, remember. And you're... what are you?
Castiel: I'm an angel.
Oliver: That-no, you can't be.
Castiel: Why not?
Oliver: Because I'm an atheist.
Sam: Not anymore.
Oliver: All I'm getting from you is... colors. But the hippie over here, I'm seeing some creep-ass hobbit fella, in a prison cell.
Bobby: Hey Sam, remember when this job was just chopping up some fang, and throwing back a cold one?
Dean: Rowena, what's a nice girl like you doing in a place like this? I'm sorry did I say nice girl? I meant evil skank.
Rowena: You say that like it's an insult. Nice girls, they're pathetic. Here's to 'evil skanks.'
Angel: The Bobbys are fighting back. All hands, we need all hands. They're surly, I repeat the Bobbys are surly.
Bobby: Cas where's Dean.
Bobby: You heard me.
Castiel: Dean's resting, he's sick
Bobby: Try again.
Castiel: Dean doesn't know we're doing this.
Bobby: Well That's a page right of the Winchester playbook.
Castiel: Dean has given up.
Bobby: And you idjits haven't?
Castiel: Would you?
Bobby: Hell no.
Dean: Boris. Where's Natasha?
Dean: A wise man once told me, 'family don't end in blood.' But it doesn't start there either. Family cares about you, not what you can do for them family's there; for the good, bad, all of it. They got your back, even when it hurts. That's family. That sound like your mother?
Crowley: You may have brought me into this world, but you were never my mother.
Rowena: So you're choosing the Winchesters.
Crowley: I'm choosing me. I put up with your lies, your sad little schemes because-because maybe you were right, maybe I did lose my edge. But that ends now. Tell me Rowena, if I were not the King of Hell, would you have ever bothered to pretend to care about me?
Rowena: You-you can't.
Crowley: I can, I'm bloody Crowley! I'm the King of Hell. I do what I want, when I want, and I don't take orders from you.
Bobby's letter: Sam, so, this is weird huh? Look I just wanted to say that Cas told me what you're doing for Dean and I'm not asking you to stop but maybe going behind his back ain't the best idea. Your brother, he can be stubborn but I think he'd understand and I know it's the life: doing a little bad so you can do a lot of good but sometimes the bad is real bad and the good, it can come at one hell of a price. I ain't there on the ground and whatever you do, I know you'll make the right choice. You're a good man, Sam Winchester, one of the best and I'm damn proud of you son. I was content up here but getting a call from you, it's the happiest I've been in forever, no matter what it costs. So stay safe, keep fighting and kick it in the ass. Bobby.
What a cool episode! Sure, the boys weren't together for most of it and when they were they were totally telling lies and deceiving one another, but it still worked. Yay for Sam & Cas and a plan that actually worked! I think it was also noted that this is another one of the rare episodes where nobody died.
So happy to see Bobby again and in on the action. Equally happy that Metatron's been knocked down a peg and Rowena is out of hell (though her being out there in the world making havoc can't be good either).
I hope Sam will take Bobby's advice and let Dean in on what they've done to try and help him. Better he be told now when he'll be more understanding than down the road when the Mark can possibly taint his views on things. Even though it feels kinda wrong I love what good buddies Dean and Crowley are. I mean, Crowley didn't have to tell Dean there was a way to get rid of the Mark, but he did. I think Crowley really does want the thing gone, even though it was his doing that gave Dean the Mark in the first place.
Bring on the next ep! :)
