First Impressions: 10x18 "Book Of The Damned"

Ok, I wasn't going to include any caps because it's late, but then I thought, aw, what the hell.
Couldn't resist the pretty, so there's 19 small caps in here. Enjoy!

♦ Love Charlie kicking ass and wielding a sword. Go girl!
♦ Not to mention using dental floss to stitch her bullet wound up. Girl learned some useful skills during her time in Oz.
image host
♦ Charlie coming-to saying "Merry Christmas" again. I'd love to know the story behind that.
♦ Charlie is seriously an awesome fighter now.
♦ OMG Cas and Charlie meeting at last is the most adorable thing ever! These 2 are going to be good buddies, I can already tell. "I thought you'd be shorter." LOL
image host image host

♦ LOVE Cas punching Metatron in the car. I was all "Hit him again!" LOL
♦ I gotta say Metatron's bliss over eating food was fun to watch. "I had no idea." He is right about him and Cas being similar now. After all, Cas lamented over missing his PB&J to Sam. But yeah, friends? NOT. "Because you killed my friend."
♦ That trucker-cupid totally looks like a younger Bobby. :P
♦ Metatron ends up saving Cas's life, but Cas remains firm..."This changes nothing."
♦ So Metatron hid Cas's grace in a library because nobody goes there anymore. Eh, not really true, dude. And if Cas can feel that his grace is there, you'd think he'd be able to zero in on it, hidden or not.
♦ Metatron has a point about the angels being "full of self-loathing or delusions of grandeur"...Heaven is back in order again and once Cas gets his grace back, what then? Although you could say Castiel's mission right now is the same as Sam's...saving Dean. But beyond that, what is he to do?
♦ Whoah....what on earth did Metatron do to Cas??? :(
♦ So Metatron has the Demon tablet stashed in the library, too. Great. Now he's got that back. Can't be good.
♦ Cas figures out the clues and manages to get his grace back. Yay! But OMG his poor tattered wings! :(

♦ Dean in a hoodie!!!!! According to writer, Robbie Thompson, Dean's in sweatpants and a hoodie because he was working out. It's a scene that they cut. Hopefully it'll be on the DVDs.
image host
♦ Dean tells Sam about the Mark being a curse, that Crowley told him, that Rowena tried to kill him and failed, and oh, that Rowena is Crowley's mother. Yay! for truthfulness...but Sam didn't spill his goings-ons with Dean. *sigh*
♦ Sam all smiling over Dean's optimism in the car & dreaming about an actual vacation on a beach. *brother feels* :)
image host image host
♦ Love seeing the boys hugging Charlie...and being so careful not to hurt her wound. Awww!
♦ Whoah! That glorious close-up of Dean as he feels the effect of the Book calling to him. *stares*
image host
♦ I like how Sam sees that Dean's being effected by the Book and decides to put it in the box, all without letting Charlie in on what's happening. That silent brother communication happening again. Love it when they do that!
♦ Dean decides the Book is too dangerous to even translate and read. If it's used there's epically bad stuff that will happen. Sam still wants to try. "I can't lose you." OMG Boys, really? You're killing me here. Dean finally takes off to get some air, telling Sam they'll find another way. But Sam's not giving up.

♦ Such a beautiful, emotional scene with Sam and Charlie in the cabin! Oh, my word. It's all quoted down below, btw. Jared killed this scene. Sam saying that hunting is his life now and he loves it but he can't do it without his brother, his voice breaking and tears forming in his eyes. Tissues anyone? *sniffs*
image host image host
♦ Not gonna lie...Dean being restrained in that arm hold is kinda hot.
image host
♦ Hee! Dean totally grabbed a couple of bags of gummy bears. Jensen's favorite! :P
♦ Whoo-hoo! Dean shooting his gun while on the ground? Totally badass and hot!!! And geez, he emptied the whole clip into that guy and it finally killed him. What are these guys???
image host image host
♦ Still not sure why Dean put holy oil into the fire? I guess to be sure the Book would be destroyed?
♦ So Sam burned the book and killed Jacob. Awesome! Great fight scene, btw.
♦ OMG The family pizza dinner scene, or as Robbie called it "The Last Supper"...ominous, much? Did you notice Dean takes the tops off of his and Sam's beers...just like Sam noted back in Season 8...that it was something his brother always did. Dean's all happy & laughing, Charlie's doing that cute little paper game thing with Cas (I remember doing that in junior high!)...but Sam is sad.
image host image host image host
♦ So we find out Sam did NOT burn the Book after all, but made a last-minute switch that Dean didn't see. And he's brought the Book to Rowena to ask for her help. Oh, boy.

♦ Love the music, lighting and moodiness of the opening with Charlie & Jacob & his goon. Awesome stuff!
♦ OMG and that compass-like prop...killer cool!
image host
♦ Nice lead-lined box to keep the book in.
♦ The cabin is at Burnaby Fraser-Foreshore Park! Been there many times. :)
♦ I really like the layout of that cabin, btw. Seems nice and cozy.
♦ The director really liked that cloud formation. "Gotta have that cloud in the shot!" Hee!
♦ And of course Cas lies to Dean about how he got his grace back. *sigh*
♦ Nice dedication at the end of the ep to stand-in, Jaap Broeker.

Dean: Look man it has been one crap sandwich after another for the past few weeks, okay. You heard Charlie, we got a shot at fixing this thing, so if that don't put gas in your tank.
Sam: If by shot, you mean a spell in a book we can't read, that's currently being tracked.
Dean: We're due for a win, okay 0 for 2. I'll tell you another thing, if this actually does work, we can take some time off.
Sam: What like a vacation?
Dean: Mmmhmm. And I'm not talking just a weekend in Vegas or sitting in some crap motel watching pay-per-porn. No I'm talking about a beach, drinking cervezas, mingle with the local wildlife. When's the last time either one of us was on a beach?
Sam: Never.
Dean: Never. Sand between our toes, Sammy. Sand between our toes.

Metatron: Oh em me. Food, glorious food. All the countless descriptions in some many books, but those were just words. The taste, I mean the actual taste -- I had no idea. And the process, comes in here, and comes out here. Sorcery. I mean you used to be human, don't you miss all this?
Castiel: No. I don't miss digestion, I don't miss indigestion.
Metatron: No-no not that. I mean don't you miss the feeling of all this; the taste of these waffles, the sound of a child's laughter. Look at us, we're a couple of angels who have touched not only the divine, but the mundane. You and I have a lot in common.

Charlie: Okay here's what I learned so far. About 700 hundred years ago, a nun locked herself away after having visions of darkness. After a few decades squirreled away by herself, she emerged with this. Each page is made out of slices of her own skin, and written in her blood. I told you it's ickish. According to the notes I found, it's been owned and used by cults and covens, even the Vatican had it for a while.

Metatron: Sorry about the mess, I guess I'm lactose intolerant.
Castiel: Let's never speak of it again.

Dean: Sam read the file. The way the book works, when you use it there is a negative reaction, I'm talking Biblical negative. Dark magic always comes with a price, we know that, we've been down that road before.
Charlie: Well, let's at least translate it, see what it says.
Dean: You guys don't understand, the book's been calling out to me ever since I laid eyes on it, okay. Calling out to the Mark. I can hear it like it's alive, it wants me to use it, but not for good. Look I wanted it to be the answer too, okay. I really did. But we have to get rid of it; burn it, bury it -- I don't give a damn, we'll just have to find another way to fix the Mark.
Sam: Until what? Tell me. Until what, Dean? Until I watch you become a demon again, until then? I can't do that, I won't do that.
Dean: Well then you'll just have to lock me up, bind me to the Bunker like you did last time.
Charlie: That doesn't solve anything.
Sam: Look jut let us translate the book, okay. if there is a cure we'll do it and deal with the consequences later. I can't lose you.
Dean: Really?
Sam: Yeah really.
Dean: You change your mind on that 'cause that's not what you said last time.
Sam: Come on man, you know I didn't mean-
Dean: This is my cross to bear Sam, mine. And that book is not the answer, now we gotta destroy it before it falls into the wrong hands, and that includes me.

Metatron: No, if I'm gonna die, I want answers. Like, who are you now? You're obviously not an angel of the Lord, and what about all of this walking the Earth like Kane from Kung Fu crap? Cleaning up Heaven's messes; how many rogue angels do you think are out there? And what are you gonna do once you're done with all that? Go back to Heaven? Please. The angel formerly known as Hannah has restored order up top, smoothest it's run since God cut the ribbon on the Pearly Gates. So tell me Castiel, truly what is your mission now?

Charlie: What did Dean mean? When he said you changed your mind?
Sam: So, a while back, we had a chance to, um... Close the Gates of Hell. And in order to do that, I would've had to die, and I was okay with that and I am okay with that, but Dean was not. And so he, uh...
Charlie: He saved you.
Sam: Yeah, he saved me.
Charlie: And let me guess, in doing so, he did something you didn't want and that pissed you off. And you said something that hurt him?
Charlie: Yeah, that sounds about right.
Charlie: Brothers. You know, I haven’t been a Hunter for very long, but it feels like this is a life. Mostly ends in Sophie’s Choices, death or tears. Usually all of the above. How did this become my life? I was gonna own my own start-up, marry ScarJo, invent something cool. Now I’m just happy to be alive.
Sam: You know, when Dean came to get me at school, I-I told myself... One last job, you know? One more job. And then when -- when I, um... When I lost Jess, I, again, told myself, one more job. There's always one more job, you know? And one more job and one more job, and then I was gonna go back to law and -- and to my life.
Charlie: You were the Dread Pirate Roberts of hunting.
Sam: Yeah, I guess I really understand now that... This is my life. I love it. But I can't do it without my brother. I don't want to do it without my brother. And if he's gone, then I don't...
Charlie: I-I got it. I do.

Sam: Charlie, Cas. Cas, Charlie.
Charlie: I thought you'd be shorter.
Sam: I'm gonna get these to the fridge.
Charlie: Heard you got your mojo back.
Castiel: Yes, my -- my grace, it's -- it's been restored.
Charlie: So, can't you just, you know... cure Dean?
Castiel: Unfortunately, it's not that simple.
Charlie: Oh. Never is, is it? Do you think you could do anything about my carpal tunnel? Is that it?
Castiel: Your carpal tunnel and your bullet wound are now healed. You may want to continue wearing your wrist brace at night, though.
Charlie: Did we just become best friends?

Sam: I don’t trust you. And I never will. But I need help. And this is right in your wheelhouse. I need the Mark Of Cain off of my brother. And something tells me, you can crack this Book and find that cure. The only question is...will you help me?
Rowena: Shall we discuss terms?

Wow! What an epic episode! I know we can't expect the remaining 5 episodes to be this great and intense, but this was pretty darned exciting and telling of what we can expect in the last few. Whoo! What a ride!

I think I love Charlie even more now that she's a hunter and has all these fighting skills. Brains, beauty, and brawn all in one amazing package. And her rapport with the boys is special and unique.

That bastard Metatron is still friggin' alive! And in the wind with the Demon tablet. Bad! Thankfully he doesn't have his grace, but still...what damage is he going to cause?

Yay! Cas is back!!! So happy about that. Too bad he can't cure Dean, but I'm sure him being back to full power is going to end up being useful. Which is kind of worrying in and of itself. Hmmmm.

Oh, my goodness all the brotherly feelings and emotions in this one. Dean wanting an answer for the Mark, but not at the expense of something worse happening and Sam willing to do whatever it takes to save Dean, consequences be damned. Ugh. This is building up to something horrible, I'm sure. That means epically wonderful for the show, of course! Hee! I'm making sense, right? :)

Sam telling Dean that he can't lose him...pretty much telling him that he loves him. *cries* Jared really did an amazing job with these scenes. It's just scary how far Sam's willing to go to save Dean...which brings back that line from Dean in S1's "Devil's Trap": "The things I'm willing to do to save you or dad...it scares me sometimes." Just how far will Sam go? I'm afraid he's going to continue to lie to Dean because he knows his brother would stop him if he knew. I fear Sam is going to go to a very dark place. After all, look what he did at the beginning of the season, just to find where Dean was.

Can't wait for next week. Ooooh!
