First Impressions Review: 11x22 "We Happy Few"

Geez, it's only taken me most of the night to get this typed up. But then I did have browser trouble while watching the ep online...*sigh* Plus, it was a lot to take in...especially that ending. But let's get to it...

Yeah, Lucifer & Chuck are not getting along. Lucifer is the one not wanting to work with Dad. Casifer: "Screw you. Screw all of you." Nice that the boys are at least under Chuck's protection so Lucifer can't hurt them.

Great. So Lucifer holes himself up in Sam's room and blasts music, refusing to talk to the boys. In other words, being a petulant teenager. Poor Sam. I would NOT want my hell tormentor in my bedroom, doing god knows what to my things.

Crowley! He's trying to rebuild hell after Lucifer's takeover. "We can make hell great again." He's certainly not getting any support from the demon minions who think he's singing the same old song again which never materializes. They're all: if the world ends, then hell will end with it.

Aw, Chuck's fixing the boys pancakes! :)
He says Lucifer wants what everyone wants from him: an apology....but he's not sorry for what he did to the angel. Dean reminds him that they're running out of time.

Rowena drops in on an old acquaintance in Louisiana, named Clea. Rowena needs a second to do a spell which will ensure her survival against the Darkness. Clea's wary, but finally agrees to terms (traveling back in time for each of them) when Rowena tells her she saw inside the Darkness and could see it means not only the end of the world, heaven, & hell, but of everything - magic, too.

This is a fun scene (the preview one) which then gets serious, with the boys acting like counselors to Lucifer and Chuck. Dean gets to use his Dr. Phil knowledge! At least Lucifer finally agreed to talk to Chuck. Yeah, Chuck....that's not much of an apology.
Chuck goes...I did what I had to do to save the world.
Lucifer is all....you betrayed me. You gave me the Mark and when it corrupted me, you threw me out. Chuck then points out that Lucifer was always against humanity, the Mark just "made you more of what you already were.".

Casifer: Do you have any idea what it is like to argue with your father when your father is God?

Everything's an I told you so or it had to be done. Dean points out that's pretty much all fathers. He finally gets God to admit he wasn't always the greatest at being a dad.
What the??? Sam is siding with Lucifer here???? Wha????
He points out that all Lucifer wants is an apology and God is too concerned about being right to give him one. The boys point out that an apology doesn't have to mean anything & that Dean says "I'm sorry" to Sam all the time and doesn't always mean it. That earns him an annoyed glance from his brother. Heh. Chuck's had enough and zaps the boys to another part of the bunker.

Chuck finally talks honestly to Lucifer....telling him he was his favorite and that he gave him the Mark because he thought he was strong enough to bear it. He's sorry that he hurt Lucifer.

Well, it looks like all is good between father and son now. The plan is to put Amara back in the cage, not to destroy her. It's all yin/yang, darkness & light. It wouldn't be good to just kill the Darkness. She has to still exist, just be locked away again. Problem is, Lucifer & God aren't enough to do it and God doesn't have enough time to resurrect the other archangels. Damn...no Gabriel??? :( And Michael isn't in any condition to fight.

Sam: So what do you need to win?
Chuck: What have you got?

Dean suggests bringing Crowley onto the team. He drops in on the king of hell....who's been drinking quite a bit. Meanwhile, Lucifer tries to get the angels on board and they're not too welcoming. Then he let's Castiel speak to them.

Sam mentions Rowena and he's soon zapping in on her and Clea's little spell planning. She threatens to turn Sam into a moose! "An actual moose." LOL But Sam's protected by God. Ha!

Ok, there's lots of scenes with Cas trying to convince the angels, Dean trying to get Crowley on the team, and Sam trying to convince Rowena....Clea's easily on board. The game plan is to have them all attack Amara and then God will finish her off. Dean doesn't like this plan....why not just kill Amara? Lucifer points out that this is all about Dean's girlfriend. "Think about it. Dean Winchester meets the biggest evil in the universe and takes a pass? Come on. He wants Daddy to do what he couldn't." Dean says he tried to kill Amara.

Chuck: Maybe it didn't work because you didn't want it to work. Maybe you didn't want to kill her.

Dean finally confesses that part of him doesn't want to kill her, but of course if she's already dead....problem solved. Sam points out that they always sweat these decisions, but for once they have God on their side. Dean looks very vulnerable and unsure.

We then get shots of the angels, Rowena, and Crowley agreeing with the plan to help God defeat Amara.
Alright, but I wanna know how Crowley got the demons to go along with all this. They pretty much had given up on him earlier in the ep. Maybe knowing the angels and God himself was involved helped sway them?

Speaking of Amara....she's found Donatello and is throwing him around his house! He refuses to tell her where God is, but she just eats his soul and finds out...Kansas.

HOLY CRAP!!!! AMARA IS IN THE BUNKER! REPEAT - AMARA IS IN THE BUNKER!!!!
No respect for Chuck's coffee mug. But it looks like nobody is home...

They're all meeting at some old building and Chuck has to have his big entrance: "Hello, my children." Heh.

Chuck: Rowena, Crowley. It's good to finally meet you in person.
Rowena: Sorry about, well, everything I've ever done in my life. Really, you can't have been a fan.
Chuck: Oh yeah. I've been quietly rooting against you both for some time now. Although I can't deny you're one of my guilty pleasures.
Rowena: Oh, God.
Crowley: Oh God.
Dean: Alright no flirting. And no fighting.

Hee! God's all we have a plan - "Shock & awe!" Heh.
Wait, what???? Sam volunteered to wear the Mark to lock Amara away??? WTH???
Dean says he should take it, since he's had it before, but Chuck says he can't he's "damaged goods". :(
Dean pulls Sam aside, he does NOT like this plan. Me neither. Sam points out that Dean told him he'd have to step up to take down Amara and that's what he's doing. Bah! I still hate this idea, Sam! No way is Dean going to just lock you up and throw away the key!
Meanwhile, Crowley, Lucifer, and Rowena are arguing over which force is the strongest to take on Amara first.
Dean finally agrees...."Okay Sam, okay. God's plan."

Amara is snooping around the bunker and finds the photo of Dean as a kid with his mom. Rowena sends a message to Amara....she's with God right now.
Amara meets her outside of the building...oh, of course Rowena wants to work a deal!
But Amara sees right through it and says she only wanted to meet with her brother anyway. Rowena tries to attack her, even with the help of Clea and other witches, but it's not enough. Amara knocks Rowena down and kills the other witches. Ooop...time for the angels to strike! And then the demons show up to attack her. Even Crowley get into it and pow! She's slammed into a car and DOWN!

But not finished!!! She comes into the building, looking not well at all.
Love how Sam holds Dean back from going over to her.
She tells God he cheated....again.
Whoah! And then Lucifer stabs her through with a sword!!!

God stops Lucifer from finishing her off. He finally apologizes to her..."for everything".
But an apology doesn't mean anything to her.

Chuck: I'm sorry. For this. For everything.
Amara: An apology at last. What's 'sorry' to me? I spent millions of years crammed in that cage. Alone and afraid, wishing and begging for death because of you! What was my crime brother?!
Chuck: The world needed to be born and you wouldn't let me! Amara, you gave me no choice.
Amara: That's your story, not mine. The real reason you banished me, why I couldn't be allowed to exist... you couldn't stand it. No, we were equals. We weren't great or powerful because we stood only in relation to each other. You think you made the archangels to bring light? No. You made them to create lesser beings, to make you large, to make you Lord. It was ego! You wanted to be big!
Chuck: That's true. But it isn't the whole truth. There's a value, a glory in creation... that's greater and truer than my pride or my ego. Call it grace call it being! Whatever it is it didn't come from my hands, it was there, waiting to be born. It just is. As you and I just were. Since you've been free I know you've seen it. Felt it.
Amara: It didn't have to be like this. I loved you, brother. Well... you've won again. Finish it. Kill me.

Btw, I love the look of pain Dean had on his face at seeing Amara all broken and bloody. Nice tie-in with his attraction to her.

So God takes the Mark from her and gives it to Sam. Love Dean holding onto him as it happens. Brother love!!!!
But Amara refuses to go back in the box again and she fights back!
She attacks God and takes back the Mark! Noooooo!!!!!!! I mean, I'm glad Sam doesn't have the Mark, but this isn't working!!!! Noooooo!!!! Cas!!!!! :(

Amara: I'd die a million times. Murder you a million more before going back there. Tell me if you won't change, why should I?

OMG She killed God!!!! o.O

Rowena comes to outside the building. What happened to Crowley??? Don't see him at all.

Dean: Amara what have you done?
Sam: He's dead. God's dead.
Amara: No. He's dying. My brother will dim and fade away into nothing. But not until He sees what comes next. Not until He watches this world, everything He created, everything He loves turn into ash. Welcome to the end.

Rowena seems to look at a fading sun, but she's shielding her eyes so it's unclear what she's really seeing. I mean, wouldn't it be sunrise because it was night before? I'm confused!!!! Meanwhile, Amara disappears and the boys are left with a still unmoving God laying on the floor. Meep. :(

Final Thoughts:

Another powerful episode! Not quite as epic as the previous two, but I'm being picky here. Minor differences and the tone and pacing of this one was different.

It was great seeing all the leading characters working together and sharing a scene at long last. I mean...who would've thought that Lucifer and God would reconcile? That Crowley and Rowena would ever work together again? That Crowley would be in the same room as God?

Poor Donatello, though...3 days as a prophet and he's dead just like that? Why wasn't God protecting him?

Obviously, with this being the 2nd to the last episode of the season there was no way that Amara was going to be taken care of in this episode, but still....after your big plan fails big time, now what??? I'm glad Sam didn't end up with the Mark, because A) that would just destroy Dean - seeing his brother go through what he did. and B) would Sam be able to handle it better than Dean did? Maybe. But I'm also thinking back to soulless Sam in Season 6...but on steroids, darker. Not a pretty picture if it went down that way. Plus, I just....gah! You're telling me God doesn't have a plan B instead of using the Mark to keep Amara locked up???

Anyway, I'm glad that scenario is out...as far as we can tell right now with God dying and all. Which is sad because I like Chuck and I like this version of God that the show is presenting us with. Yeah, he's kind of egotistical and unwilling to accept his mistakes, but in the end he's been coming around and fixing things. And I must say, Rob has been excellent in his acting choices through these 3 episodes so far. Love, love, love!

So...what happens now? Well, I've seen the promo for the finale and...EEEEP!!!! But oh, so excited!!!! :D

Quotes:

Lucifer: Enemy of my enemy is my friend. Team Amara. Go Amara.

Sam: Lucifer, you know at some point in time you're gonna have to come out and talk to God.
Dean: This is like the worst episode of Full House ever.

Sam: We all know that you are God. But, maybe could you be a little less Lordly?
Chuck: But I am, I-I'm the Lord.
Chuck: I did what had to do. To create the world I had o lock Amara away, and when the Mark corrupted you and I saw that you posed a threat to humankind I did the same with you.

Lucifer: You have any idea what it's like to argue with your father when your Father is God? Everything is a tautology. Everything is 'because I told you so.' Everything's 'it had to be done.'
Dean: Pretty sure that's all fathers.

Lucifer: No, you betrayed me. You gave me the Mark to lock her away, and when it changed me, when it did what the Mark inevitably does. You threw me away.
Chuck: No son. The Mark... you always cast a jaundice glance at humans. The Mark didn't change you. It just made you more of what you already were.
Lucifer: What I was, was your son. Your child.

Castiel: You know every second I spend subordinating myself to Lucifer, it's been a torment. It's destroying me, it's burning through my vessel. But I would do it all over again. Because through me, he and God, they will defeat the Darkness. That's my role in this fight. It's God fight. You can play a part in that fight too, if you join me.

Crowley: Game of Thrones. It's musical chairs. Still, I wanted it. To go out with the crown on my head.

Lucifer: It's about her, Sam. It's about his girlfriend.
Dean: Okay. Shut up.
Lucifer: Think about it. Dean Winchester meets the biggest evil in the universe and takes a pass? Come on. He wants Daddy to do what he couldn't.
Dean: I tried to kill her, and it didn't work.

Chuck: Maybe it didn't work because you didn't want it to work. Maybe you didn't want to kill her.
Sam: You want God to kill Amara, because you don't want Amara to be killed?
Dean: Yeah maybe there's a part of me that just can't hurt her. But if she's already dead...
Sam: She's already dead.

Chuck: Amara is looking for me. But I'm warded against her, for now. The second I drop the warding, she'll show. She'll be expecting a fight and we'll give it to her. Shock and awe. Shock and awe.

Sam: We've talked about this. It's time to do the smart thing.
Dean: So what am I supposed to do, just sit by and watch?
Sam: No. We're both in this fight. You're leading this army.
Dean: What babysitting the bad guys? Okay Sam, okay. God's plan.

Finish it. Kill me.
Amara: I'd die a million times. Murder you a million more before going back there. Tell me if you won't change, why should I?

Dean: Amara what have you done?

Amara: No. He's dying. My brother will dim and fade away into nothing. But not until He sees what comes next. Not until He watches this world, everything He created, everything He loves turn into ash. Welcome to the end.
