First Impressions Review: 12x10 "Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets"

This review was a rushed job because I didn't watch the episode until well after midnight. I got caught up playing a video game online, which based on the opening scene is very ironic. :P

Cool! Not your typical video game player. I like! But something tells me this is an angel... Ah! A challenger! All red hair and eye patch. Reminds me of Charlie in "Pac-Man Fever". I miss her!!!! Ooooh! Angel fight!!!! :D
Oh, but gamer girl's got some tricks...Patch gal lets her call out to her friends, including Cas! Then she kills her. :(

Oh! Murder board! No leads on Kelly Kline. So it's Cas's board. And mom called and says she's got a shapeshifter job. Ah, boys....nobody to help? Dean's questioning how fast Mary got back into the job, but Sam seems unconcerned.

Dean's not speaking to Cas over the whole killing Billie thing from the last ep. He's worried about those Cosmic Consequences....me too! Cas appears and says an old friend called out and then was silenced - needs to find out if he's okay. Sam offers right away to help and Dean reluctantly....he wants to make sure Cas doesn't do anything else stupid. Ouch! Like you never made a mistake, Dean? I mean, I get it....Cas made a bold move, but I'd be more upset over him losing Kelly than killing Billie. Either way, the damage is done. No point giving Cas the silent treatment. *sigh*

Which brings us to....the tension-filled car ride.
Sam tries playing some music, but Dean says no. Then he tries getting info. from Cas about his friend...crickets. Geez. Yeah! I'm totally with Sam here....grow up guys! Cas finally speaks and Dean comments about it, earning him a glare from the angel in the backseat. Hee! Oh, the bickering! But Sam breaks it up. Benjamin, Cas's friend, wouldn't call for help lightly and he wouldn't put his vessel in danger either because they're friends.

Patches gal is in a motel bed....reciting something in her sleep. This must be the Lily Sunder in the title.

Boys at the crime scene. Burnt angel wings on the wall. Dean finds an angel blade and Cas says it's not Ben's. Then he gets something on angel radio....or from Lily, who wakes up and says Castiel's name. Uh, oh....

Cas & the boys go to meet another angel, Isham, who Cas served under w/Ben. But Cas goes in alone 'cause Isham doesn't like humans. So Isham and Mirabel have kept their vessels and Cas had another one earlier? Wonder who/what it was? Isham accuses Cas of sacrificing other angels for his causes. Well, yeah, that happens in a war and Cas answers similarly. These 2 angels are the only ones left from Cas's old garrison.

Dean gets tired of waiting outside and the boys go into the diner and squish themselves into the booth next to Cas. Cute!!! Mirabel goes outside to check for other followers....but Lily finds her first. Kill!

Isham's pretty heavy with the insults towards Cas and Dean takes an instant dislike towards him and the angel towards him. Isham wants to talk w/Cas in private, away from his "monkeys". But he leaves to find Mirabel. The boys say Cas shouldn't let him talk to Cas like that but Cas explains that all he cares about is finding out who killed Benjamin. He'll put up with Isham just fine.

Isham finds Mirabel's body and Lily shows up and tries to kill him. He then tries to smite her, but it doesn't work. Cas! and the boys show up and Cas remembers her. Lily says she doesn't want to hurt any humans and Dean calls her Patches. Hee! Then she emits a bright light and disappears. Dean is blinded by the light but Sam isn't 'cause he smartly shielded his eyes. Sam got the plate of her car!

They take refuge in an old abandoned church, Isham included, who is hurt, but he won't let Cas heal him. The boys want to know how Cas knows the rogue angel and he tells the story...

Before the apocalypse angels almost never came to earth, except this one time when there was "an anomaly"....in 1901, in Maine. Cas was a woman! Cool! Ah, there was another nephilim born....dangerous. Alright, who are the 2 extras? Uriel and Anna maybe? We never find out. Alright, Akobel seems a little surprised when they accuse him of fathering a nephilim. But they kill him, so we don't learn why. Cas was sure all angel business back then.

Whoah....so Isham showed mercy on Lily and let her live. And he's been picking on Cas for his decisions??? Lily speaks fluent Enochian....handy. She made a demonic pact to keep herself alive this long. The boys offer to go after Lily, but Cas says it will take all of them to take her down. Then Sam, ever the rational one, says they need to try and reason with her, but Cas says she won't listen. But he and Dean are determined to try.

Lily heals her own wound with what looks like magic...not the angelic way.

Oh, Isham let it go already! Cas heals his wound, which is deep and takes a lot out of Cas. And he has to listen to more of Isham's criticisms about him and how he's changed working with humans.

The boys find Lily in her motel and they meet up in the hallway. They just want to talk and it's obvious that something's been left out of the story....

Okay, so Lily's daughter, May, was human. Isham knew Lily from way back, and he loved her, but his obsession was too much, so she took up with Akobel instead. And Isham killed May in front of Lily, taunting her and calling her powerless. So it looks like Isham made up the whole nephilim story so he could kill Lily's husband/lover.

Dean tries to call Cas and no answer. Uh, oh...
Dean goes to see what's what and leaves Sam with Lily...who reminds them that she is no threat to humans.

Lily's been using Enochian magic against the angels, not dark magic. But it comes at a price....it's burning away her soul. She tells Sam that Isham will kill Dean when he confronts him and then she knows Sam will help her to take him down.

Dean tells a weakened Cas that Isham is playing him, that Lily's daughter was human. And there's Isham....

Cas confronts Isham with the facts...which he denies, of course. Dean stands up for Cas and pretty soon we're into a fight! Dean's all ready to do the angel dispelling sigil, but Isham beats Cas down and then says Dean can go ahead, but Cas might not survive in his weakened state. Dean wisely backs down and then Sam and Lily show up!!! She fights Isham and the boys join in to help. They get thrown into walls and Lily's got Isham, but he's fighting against her power. Then Cas stabs him from behind!

Lily's gotten her revenge....except there's still Cas, but Dean tells her she's done. Cas says his ignorance is no excuse for her loss and if she leaves and finds she can't accept things, he'll be around. I see Cas's reasoning....he was all towing the angelic company line back then. He would have killed Lily's child if it had been a nephilim. Hopefully Lily will give up her revenge-driven ways.

Back at the bunker there's a nice scene with the guys...
They tell Cas that he's not weak, he's changed, but it's been for the better. Cas doesn't regret killing Billie and Dean explains that he's not mad, but scared, because cosmic consequences always bite them in the ass. True. Sam asks what Cas will do when he finds Kelly and the nephilim baby? It'll be way more powerful because it's fathered by an archangel, the devil, but Cas really doesn't know what he'll do. So they drink some beer and hope to find a better way.

We haven't had a Castiel-centric episode in a while and this one wasn't too bad. It still had the boys nicely involved, so they weren't missed and they were thick in the action.

Dean, Dean, Dean...he can still surprise me with his little ways. Giving Cas the silent treatment seems so silly in a way and I'm glad Sam called him out on it. Like I said, damage is done and not talking isn't going to change the situation. Now we've got 2 strikes against Cas here: losing Kelly and killing Billie. I don't blame Cas for killing Billie. He saved the boys and Mary and well, someone had to do it. Will there be terrible consequences? Probably, but he and the boys will figure it out somehow. As for losing Kelly...that was a stupid move. I'd be more pissed at Cas over that because he's let people slip away before and he should have known better. But at least working this case, Dean and Cas worked things out and are speaking again. :)

And I've really got nothing else to say at the moment. It was a good episode. Not a great one, but a good one. I liked it a bit better than I thought I would.

Sam: “I don’t think we’ve got the kind of mom who’s gonna stay home and make us chicken soup for dinner.”

Sam: Look, yes. Cas killed Billie, but he saved us. He saved Mom.
Dean: I'm not pissed that he cares about us, I'm grateful. But, Billie said there would be cosmic consequences if that deal got broken. You have any idea what that means?
Sam: No.
Dean: Neither do I. But, I'm pretty sure it's not jelly beans and g-strings.

Ishim: Now Maribel, some angels think that Castiel is a hero. After he left us he had his own flight to command. Balthazar, Uriel. Great soldiers. Both dead now, of course. You had a hand in that too. So is he a hero? Is he a spanner in the works? I don't know.
Castiel: I am not a hero. But, sometimes doing the right thing requires sacrifices.
Ishim: True. But, it just always seems that it's other angels sacrificing for your good deeds. Their wings, their lives.

Dean: Okay, yeah look. I-I get that we need super dick over there. But, I mean come on?
Castiel: The angels I served with are being killed. So, I will put up with Ishim, I will put with everything else and so will you. I have to go.

Ishim: The way you let those simians talk to you. Castiel. When did you get so gooey? You know why we're meant to stay away from them humans? It's not because we're a danger to them, they're a danger to us. Case in point.
Castiel: Well, my relationship with Sam and Dean has made me stronger.

Sam: So what's the plan.
Dean: Well, we knock on her door, ask her nicely not kill any more angels.
Sam: And if she say no?
Dean: We burn that bridge when we come to it.

Lily: Every time I use one of their spells, a piece of my soul burns away. And once it's gone...
Sam: You won't feel anything anymore. You won't, uh, care about anything anymore. You won't be human anymore.

Lily: I used to dream about my daughter every night. Know what I dream about now? Nothing. You don't trust me, I understand. But, when your brother confronts Ishim, the angel will kill him. Ishim's a big man in Heaven, he's got too much to lose if the truth comes out. And when your brother's dead, you won't stand in my way anymore, you'll help me. And for that, I can wait.

Lily: “Revenge is all I’ve had for over 100 years. It’s what I am.”

Castiel: I'm sorry. I was wrong. And, while it's true I didn't know we were killing an innocent, ignorance is no excuse. I truly can't imagine the depths of your loss. This was your child, I can't imagine the pain. So, if you leave here and find that you can't forgive me, I'll be waiting.

Dean: What Isim said. You're not weak Cas, you know that right?
Sam: I mean obviously you changed, but, it's all been for the better, man.
Dean: And you have been with us every step of this, long crazy thrill ride. And no matter how crazy it got, you never backed down.
Sam: And that takes strength.

Dean: So what are we gonna do?
Castiel: Let's drink, and hope we can find a better way.
