First Impressions Review: 12x20 "Twigs & Twine & Tasha Banes"

Okay, so I've watched the ep only once and it was very dark and very late. Hopefully my review makes some sense.

Oooh, nice building! Hope I can find it for my Locations List.
So this is Tasha Banes......mother to the witch twins.
Hmmm....what's she looking for? Something in the storm cellar stinks...Oh! ooops!
Tasha is stabbed from behind! :(

So we're picking up from the next day with the boys in the bunker and wondering what's up with Cas and the yet to be born nephilim.
Dean doesn't recognize Cas now....
Poor Colt. I hope they can figure out how to fix it.
Whose phone is ringing??? Mom's?
It's Alisha calling....sounds like Max isn't on board with them seeking help.
Their mom is missing, but Max thinks she's just fine. Sam wants to help them and Dean is wondering about Cas. Sam counters that Jody's got an APB out for Cas and Kelly and they might as well be doing something instead of sitting around being frustrated.
Sam: "Their mom's on a hunting trip and hasn't been home in a week."
That did it. Hee!
Dean calls Mary's cell.....gah! WTH???? Ketch has her all locked down in a chair!
Wait! What??? They've got a fake Mary!!! She answers the phone!
Dean leaves a message....the twins called and they're going to help them out, join if she can, but if she can't he'll understand, but please call back 'cause he needs to talk to her. Awwww.
Oh! That IS Mary. The fake one is in the chair. Shapeshifter.
Time for torture! Tell where it's family is and it stops. Heh, and now it's him. Oh...where's the British accent??? That sounded southern!

Ooooh...pretty location by the water! :D
Their mom was after a borrower witch...gets it's power from a demon deal.
Max admiring the Impala and getting the tour from Dean. Heh.
Hee! The grenade launcher. When will Dean get to finally use that thing?
So Max and his mom are both natural witches, have a closer bond. Magic is their thing, not so much Alisha's. Sam says Dean and their dad had a tight bond due to hunting. Mary gets into a case and just loses herself...literally, at the moment. Heh.
Mary gives hugs, guys. Sheesh.

Oh, yeah, creepy guy by the storm cellar doesn't look suspicious.
Uh....Tasha's alive???

It's fun to watch the boys watching another family and their dynamics. Hee! Their bickering.
Wine, music....well, isn't this cozy? And Tasha just broke her finger and snapped it back in place and nobody noticed??? WTH?
Sam volunteers to pick up the food and Dean drinks his wine. LOL

Mary didn't like Ketch torturing the shapeshifter....he enjoyed it and it didn't get them any intel.
He's all pumped and wants some sex to burn it off. It was one time only, she reminds him.
Ketch: "We don't need a conscience." Well, isn't that the BMOL all over.
Yeah, call Mick....like that'll work!
Then he tells her to return Dean's call.

Dean tells Tasha she did a good job with her kids, they're happy.
Yeah, it'll take a lot more than wine to make Dean drunk. :P
Talking about Dean's mom is complicated...just a bit.

Mary listens to Dean's voicemail....and catches Ketch on the phone to someone.
That was close...did he hear her phone buzz?
She uses Mick's computer for email and Ketch lets her.
Biggerson's Montlhy Newsletter. LOL! Messages from Dean.
She says there's a message from Mick. Oh, really??? I didn't see it.
Lying to Ketch? Hmmm....

Sam returns with the food and immediately Dean goes to talk to him. And leaves his phone behind? Why??? Why would he leave it there on the table?
Sam's got a missing flyer for the guy they saw outside of the storm cellar....he's been gone for a month.
He wants to tell the others, but Dean says to hold off, they can handle it.
What the hell is that??? o.O

Mary leaves a message for Dean....apologizing for not being there for her boys, but she will be. Awww. "I miss you boys. I love you."
Boys open the storm cellar and it really stinks.
Dean: "Smells like death. Go ahead." LOL
Sam says no way and Dean goes in first. Hee!

Max leaves Alisha and Tasha to go on a date with that bartender.

The boys find dead bodies in the cellar, including Tasha....their hearts ripped out.
Max comes into the cellar...the boys try unsuccessfully to keep him from seeing the body of his mom. Poor Max. :(

Mary's searching a storage area at BMOL headquarters...and finds Mick's body!
Access denied...oh, that's not good, Mary!
Oh! Files on her, the boys, their friends. Garth! Clair, Eileen - well it looks like she's still alive at least.
Yeah, they're recording their conversations.
She calls Dean's number, telling him to call. "We've got a problem."
Gah! Ketch at the door! "Your handprint doesn't open this room because it's not for you."
Yeah, a werewolf shot Mick in the head. Give it up, Ketch. You're busted.
Fight! Go Mary!!!
Ketch reveals how he's been cleaning up after the boys for months, killing who the boys left behind.
Ketch says he can keep Mary safe, if she just plays nice. Yeah, fat chance buddy!
She puts on the brass knuckles....oh! the Enochian only works on angels. Was Ms. Watts an angel??? That would explain the sigils glowing when she put them on.
Heh. Yeah, brass knuckles still work even without the sigils.
Gah! He tazed her! Mary!!!!!

Max storms back into the room and demands this faker show themselves. He finally has to use magic to get her to reveal the truth. Meanwhile the boys were holding back Alisha.
Ah, the innkeeper gal knows! Signaled to the other fake inn workers.
Max has some mad skills!
They find the innkeeper gal....Dean's forced into a chair.
Meanwhile, Tasha's body is snapping and breaking....Sam and Alisha have company!
So the innkeeper shows Dean and Max what happened....she's reaching the end of her long life and she sold her soul for power. When she passes, her soul goes to hell, unless she can find someone to take her burden, her power. She made the offer to Tasha, but she refused, so the woman killed her and made her into one of her "creatures" from twigs, passing on all of Tasha's knowledge to the new body. "It's her. Mostly" All the "dolls" do what she wants.
Meanwhile, Sam's getting his ass kicked...
Max's power has no effect on her. Uh, oh...
If she dies, the dolls die, too....so she offers Max to take her power and his mother can live on, forever.
No, Max!
Alisha helps Sam only to be stabbed in the stomach by her mom's doll! Noooooo!!!!!!!
Yeah!!!! Dean shot the woman before Max could take the ring! Go, Dean!!!!!
All the dolls disappear! Sam is saved!
Dean tells Max he couldn't have taken that deal...it was with a demon and he would have lost his soul.
Oh, man...Alisha dies. :( And then Max and Dean enter the room.
Poor Max....he's lost his mom and his sister just like that.

The boys try to comfort Max, but he doesn't want any of it. He doesn't want them around. He'll burn the bodies himself. Yeah, I don't think he's going to want to see Sam and Dean ever again.

In the car Sam tells Dean he did the right thing, but Dean's not so sure.
Dean: "Sam, we do terrible things all the time to save each other. I mean that's what you do for family. Who am I stop him?"
Meanwhile, we see that Max has taken the ring and uses it to bring Alisha back. She wakes up and has no idea what happened, but Max says he'll explain...oh, and his arm is all nasty looking. Uh, oh...
They leave and Max lights Alisha's body on fire.
Sam says Max is strong, hell be alright. Dean's not so sure.

Aw, Sam's sleeping in the Impala.
Dean listens to Mary's voicemail messages....the first one makes him smile at the end. Then he listens to the last one.
He wakes Sam up...Mary's in trouble.

And she really is! Ketch has her in that chair, splashing water on her.
Ketch: "If only you'd been as ruthless as I'd hoped....this could have worked out. Remember, Mary. I gave you a chance."
Mary thinks he'll kill her...and her phone rings....it's Dean.
A hand turns it off....it's Toni Bevell!!!!
She says Mary's an asset, they have other plans for her....and she takes a chair, pen and pad in hand just like she did with Sam. "Now Mary...let's begin." Gah!!!!!!

Final Thoughts:

This was a good episode...I think. I'm kinda tired, so it's hard to judge.
Nice to see the twins again, but sad to see them lose their mom and well, Max to lose his sister as well. And now he's basically sold his soul to bring her back. Very much like Dean did for Sam way back in Season 2. Ah, show...you love to show us parallels, don't you?

I saw some fans on Twitter having a hissy fit over Dean asking Sam about fixing the Colt. Really? Like it matters who fixes the darned thing? If indeed it CAN be fixed. Granted...we saw Dean helping Bobby take the Colt apart way back in Season 3, but we don't know that Sam didn't do the same thing over the years and we just didn't see it. *sigh* As usual...fans are never satisfied.

It was kind of frustrating how Dean and Mary kept missing each other with the phone calls, but I see how that was all part of the plot. At least Mary knows the truth now...how much Ketch has been keeping from her (and the boys). I just hope the boys can rescue her!

So...that's it. Not a really super thinky episode like the previous week. I'm still sorting through all of that one! :P On to next week! Looks like a super intense one! :D

Dean: Okay. So, last night... that Super Mario power-up crap. That wasn't Cas. That freakin' baby isn't even born yet, and it sock puppeted him. Think about it, Cas said that he had 'faith' in Lucifer Jr., what's that supposed to mean to me?

Sam: Their mom's on a hunting trip, and hasn't been home in a week.

Sam: And what about you? With magic?
Alicia: No, I don't have it. It's just kinda loud noise to me. Magic is definitely their thing, you know?
Sam: Yeah. When I was growing up, Dean and my Dad had the same thing with hunting. That bond.

Dean: You know, I gotta say you did a bang up job with those two.
Tasha: You must be drunk.
Dean: Off of wine?

Mr. Ketch: Yes, well Mary. I'm sad to say you won't become the Jiminy Cricket or the British Men of Letters. We don't need a conscience. Such a trite idea, but we firmly believe the ends do justify the means.

Mr. Ketch: I'm sure he's busy, when you get called to London by the old men, it's not all pints of stout and trips to the Savile Row. Oh, and you should probably return Dean's call, wouldn't want him to think mommy doesn't love him.

Tasha: Alicia said you grew up in the life?
Dean: Yeah. Yeah, my Dad raised me and Sam to hunt.
Tasha: And your mother?
Dean: That's complicated.
Tasha: Yeah. Family's always complicated. Parents always seem smart and strong and perfect. It's only when you grow up that you realize that they are just people.

Mary: Hey. It's me. Sorry I couldn't pick up before, I've been on a hunt with Ketch. And Dean, I'm sorry I haven't been there for you and Sam. But I wanna be. I will be. I just... I need to finish this. I miss you boys. I love you.

Mary: What are you doing here? Why is Mick's body in a box?
Mr. Ketch: An unfortunate werewolf mishap.
Mary: A werewolf shot him in the head?
Mr. Ketch: It's not impossible.

Mr. Ketch: I've been cleaning up after them for months. I took care of those federal agents they stupidly allowed to live. I killed a psychic girl who they thought was human. Honestly, they're damn sloppy.
Mary: I think you mean, decent.

Sam: Hey Max, um. This is, um. You're probably in shock right now. But it's gonna pass.
Dean: And then it's gonna hurt.

Max: I could have saved them. My Mom. If I'd just taken Alicia seriously.
Dean: Come on, you can't think like that.
Max: Just stop talking. Please.

Sam: You did the right thing. You saved him.
Dean: Yeah. Yeah, he seemed super saved. You know I was watching them, this loving family. The kind we should have had. And now just like that, it's gone.
Sam: Dean, you couldn't let Max make some deal for his soul.
Dean: Sam, we do terrible things all the time to save each other. I mean that's what you do for family, who am I to stop him.
Sam: He's strong. He'll be alright.
Dean: Yeah, I'm not so sure.

Mr. Ketch: If only you'd been as ruthless as I hoped, this could have worked out. Remember, Mary, I gave you a chance.
Mary: So now what? You kill me?
Lady Bevell: Don't be silly. You're an asset. We have other plans for you. Now, Mary let's begin.
