I was an outside witness to this whole thing the other evening as all the videos and evidence of the Jensenvention site & PETJA LJ were taken down. I have flisters who were on the front lines of this situation. I care about them as I care about Jensen. This has not changed. My opinion, after doing a lot of reading and a lot of thinking is that their intentions, while seemingly good and intended to be harmless fun, crossed a line. They took a risk and it backfired. I was honestly not surprised by the legal action which was imposed. I feel for those involved...Jensen included because I believe some of the feelings of anger pointed towards him maybe unwarranted.
Agents and management rule Hollywood and to them it's all about the business and making money. The actors they work for are their prized possessions. If they sense a threat they're going to attack like a mother bear protecting her cubs. Jensen is a very busy actor. He's admitted to not knowing very much of what exists online about himself. With the schedule of the show, he simply doesn't have the time. Even if he signed some papers, it doesn't mean he fully knew the whole situation. We don't know what he knew about the sites or what he may have been told. I'm not trying to paint Jensen as some kind of saint, but I think as his fans, we owe him the benefit of the doubt in this situation. He's a hard working actor, I don't think fansites are a huge priority for him.
One more thing I'd like to point out, which I found most disturbing in reading about this, is the certain belief by some people that Jensen seems to need help with his career. The man's been running his career for quite some time now. He's a big boy and can handle it himself. He seems happy with where he's at. Promoting a show is one thing, but trying to promote an actor is stepping on a sensitive area best left alone. It's fine to be fans and want success and recognition for your favorite actor, but he's the master of his own fate. Careers can turn around quickly. Just because Jensen hasn't hit the status of a major star, doesn't mean he won't sometime in the future.
To quote Forrest Gump, "That's all I have to say about that." Wise character, Forrest. He knew when to say his piece and then move on. I intend to do the same. I'd like us all to just move along, remember why we're here, and why we love the show and the actors. Time to get back to the basics - loving this show that brought us together. :)
